A dramatic update in the case of Billy Williams, the 46-year-old suspect accused of shooting a Webber’s Falls Police officer during a traffic stop in Muskogee County, Oklahoma. On Wednesday, Williams was taken into custody in Grants, New Mexico, after a brief standoff with local authorities.

According to the Grants Police Department, their officers received a BOLO (be on the lookout) from Oklahoma authorities and used their license plate reading cameras to track down the suspect’s vehicle. At 7:42 AM, they spotted the vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot, with Williams inside.

When officers approached him, they attempted to talk to Williams, but instead, they heard a single gunshot and learned he had shot himself in the stomach. He was rushed to a hospital in Albuquerque, where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition under FBI custody.‎

The FBI has taken over Williams’ custody as the investigation continues.‎

As previously reported, the incident occurred on Tuesday when a Webber’s Falls Police officer made a traffic stop on Williams, resulting in a confrontation that left the officer shot in the nose. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.

This is an arrest, not a conviction, and Williams is now facing federal charges of assault with intent to murder.
