Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, marking a major comeback after a tumultuous few years. In his inaugural address, Trump painted a rosy picture of the future, promising a “golden age” for America and listing his top priorities: trade, immigration, and national security.

As he took office, Trump was critical of his predecessor, President Joe Biden, who sat nearby. Trump also announced his first actions as president, which include signing a series of executive orders. These orders will declare a national emergency on the US-Mexico border, withdraw the US from the Paris climate deal, and pardon non-violent January 6 defendants.

In a surprising move, Trump also plans to commute the sentences of others involved in the January 6 insurrection. His predecessor, President Biden, had issued pardons to several individuals, including General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of Congress who served on the January 6 committee. Biden also pardoned his own brothers, sister, and their spouses.

Trump is expected to hold an event at the Capital One Arena later today to mark the occasion.
